Somewhere it went off the rails for me. I do see the hillbilly similarities, with people being a law unto themselves and families being almost a kingdom within themselves.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-61464364187691972572016-04-05T09:10:36.458-07:002016-04-05T09:10:36.458-07:00So far you have made a great commentary of this bo...So far you have made a great commentary of this book. I think the isolation did nurture a lot of the aberrant behavior that we see in Heathcliff and Katherine. It makes me think of the hillbillies of the Smokies and the lawlessness that reigned there.Sharon Wilfonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17466621290140789056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-64669678216349523962014-01-20T21:30:36.209-08:002014-01-20T21:30:36.209-08:00Me, too, but I think my sympathy waned earlier tha...Me, too, but I think my sympathy waned earlier than yours did. I keep reading and wondering "can it get any worse?" Fortunately I have a theory as to why Catherine was so tied to him, otherwise I think I would have been pulling my hair out. In fact, I think the actions of most of the characters of the story are believable given the circumstances, but I do question the validity of the circumstances. Well, onward and upward …… I hope …..!Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-70835060334515369192014-01-20T21:19:55.513-08:002014-01-20T21:19:55.513-08:00I felt some degree of sympathy for Heathcliff by t...I felt some degree of sympathy for Heathcliff by the end of Chapter 9, but it disappeared by the end of Chapter 17. Wuthering Heights is definitely a "shocking car wreck." I'll be watching for your post, Maggie!Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-5672401684910956502014-01-12T03:20:37.301-08:002014-01-12T03:20:37.301-08:00"A shocking car wreck that we cannot look awa..."A shocking car wreck that we cannot look away from," YESSS. That's a great simile. It's hard to like Catherine and Heathcliff (it's easier to pity them), but at the same time I still want to know what happens to them. This is one of the few novels I've read that has me intrigued by the plot despite the fact that I do not like the main characters!

I tried to comment on your post earlier this week, but it wouldn't let me for some reason :( I look forward to your thoughts on the next section! I stayed up late finishing it last night... - Maggie @ An American in FranceAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
