I'll have to read it again someday and do some research first. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-61239221402395467102014-04-16T13:50:40.035-07:002014-04-16T13:50:40.035-07:00I think the fleeting ideas and events in Candide, ...I think the fleeting ideas and events in Candide, were quite intentional and Voltaire chose to deal scenarios and left the interpretation and the philosophical debate to the reader. I remember quite enjoying the book when I read it.

Best,
PiyushPiyushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04520663428287223954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-43459225024923234252014-04-11T21:53:55.480-07:002014-04-11T21:53:55.480-07:00Lol! I was just left a little puzzled afterwards, like I got it but didn't get it. I sort of felt the same way after reading Mrs. Dalloway but at least I felt like I could read it again and receive more illumination …… with Candide I'm not so sure.

You know, I'm finding Zola is hard to beat. Even reading La Curée, though it's not my favourite subject matter, the writing is still absolutely excellent! Rarely take time for self-introspection, little dialogue/discussion ( retired and have just 3 cats) and sometimes put off dreams...just want to survive my healthy/fitness lifestyle.
All jest aside...I found you comments very interesting. This book has been floating around the house for years. It is not a long read but sounds as if would react as you did. I will use your review as a caveat and choose another French author!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-42578988988765858082014-04-08T09:54:31.109-07:002014-04-08T09:54:31.109-07:00I'm so pleased that my review was helpful. I felt Voltaire was on a little bit of a rant and expected people to easily know what he was talking about.

I'm glad you stopped by and allowed me to find your blog! I'll be interested in your thoughts about Candide when you get to it!Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-27850645612396412042014-04-07T23:40:16.194-07:002014-04-07T23:40:16.194-07:00Candide is on my to-read list, so your review was ...Candide is on my to-read list, so your review was very interesting for me. The historical context was very useful, I'm definitely interested to see how it's reflected in the text. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
