Well boy, did you make me laugh. :-D This one's on my Guardian's 1000 list, a list that I chose to pull/wrench me out of my comfort zone here and there. :-)

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the genre either. I think this one was appreciated more by me because I'd read The Maltese Falcon earlier and hated it, so I think I liked this one simply because it wasn't The Maltese Falcon. I'd be open to reading another by Chandler though.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-18750673261042334702015-06-06T19:33:07.791-07:002015-06-06T19:33:07.791-07:00I goodness your comment about out of your comfort ...I goodness your comment about out of your comfort zone made me smile. When I was looking for fellow bloggers to compare notes on this one, I thought...nah, I doubt Cleo's read it...didn't seem like your cup o tea. Serendipity. Off the point a little though. I didn't love The Big Sleep, but I'm not a big fan of the genre, so I'm probably biased. Often I avoid movies made from books because they range from being not as good as the book, to completely butchering the story. So glad that this movie sounds like it's close to being as good as the book.
Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-9012269852994888432014-06-17T17:08:56.717-07:002014-06-17T17:08:56.717-07:00This is on my list, so I'm glad to hear you en...This is on my list, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! I think I've seen the movie version, but I don't remember it at all, so when I get to reading it, I'm sure it will be like new to me. Assuming the movie and story are closely related! amanda @ simplerpastimeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14127945915013121105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-83174062449047587152014-06-15T21:01:23.002-07:002014-06-15T21:01:23.002-07:00Happily, it was a much better read than I was expe...Happily, it was a much better read than I was expecting! I think you would like it and it's a very fast read so, even if you don't, you wouldn't be tortured for too long!Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-5312123385628853962014-06-15T21:00:35.685-07:002014-06-15T21:00:35.685-07:00Women were certainly treated at times like propert...Women were certainly treated at times like property or decoration, but Marlowe did seem to have a better opinion of them depending on their character. It's a typical trend with this type of book though.

I'd like to read some more in the series too, but probably not for awhile. I can't leave my comfort zone too often! ;-)Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-73422593846680425212014-06-15T03:52:10.250-07:002014-06-15T03:52:10.250-07:00I keep seeing this and meaning to buy it and try r...I keep seeing this and meaning to buy it and try reading it, but it's way out of my comfort zone! The dialogue is snappy and very film noir. It was like watching a great old, lack and white movie with Gregory Peck or someone of that calibre. Eventually I would like to read the entire series.
