It would be interesting to read a biography about her life.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-6218218654320273172014-03-04T08:26:32.041-08:002014-03-04T08:26:32.041-08:00Oh George Eliot! Other than this book, I've read both Middlemarch and Silas Marner (but SM a long time ago). You really can't go wrong with Eliot. She hasn't disappointed me yet.

Thanks for your kind words!Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-382103561697063022014-03-02T18:35:26.089-08:002014-03-02T18:35:26.089-08:00I read Silas Marner last year and liked it so much...I read Silas Marner last year and liked it so much more than I thought I would! So far that's the only George Eliot novel I've read, but I have The Mill on the Floss on my list for sometime this year. In the small amount of research I've done on her novels, Daniel Deronda sounded like it could be one of her more interesting ones. Great post!
-DaleAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-62326882778072256582014-03-02T08:10:34.060-08:002014-03-02T08:10:34.060-08:00I find Eliot's plots often are a little clunky...I find Eliot's plots often are a little clunky but I think it's unavoidable because she covers so many issues and usually has such a large cast of characters. It doesn't take away from the book though and, in fact, is something particular about her writing style that I've learned to expect and enjoy.

Some critics of this book wish that she had left out the plot line involving the Jews, but then we would have been left following the life of a spoilt young woman with a "damaged" view of life. Even if she changed during the novel, it would have been much less interesting without the issues of the treatment of Jews in England and their longing for a homeland.

Glad I can be of service! :-DCleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-62709254442732038262014-03-02T05:32:45.198-08:002014-03-02T05:32:45.198-08:00Even though you said the book dragged on in parts ...Even though you said the book dragged on in parts for you, it still sounded like one that I would enjoy reading.
