It's funny but I think the idiom itself is poor grammar. It should be (I think) waxing lyrically. Which is perhaps why it's considered an idiom. :-Z

Okay, that's enough grammar thought for my day. My brain is starting to hurt! ;-)Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-28228605442762418492015-02-13T09:31:35.083-08:002015-02-13T09:31:35.083-08:00I love creativity....thinking 'out of the box&...I love creativity....thinking 'out of the box'! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-19030645479204656002015-02-13T08:00:00.754-08:002015-02-13T08:00:00.754-08:00You won't be deprived at all if you skip it. ...You won't be deprived at all if you skip it. I've never been exposed to the transcendentalists (well, except for Alcott, I guess), so the way he presented the qualities of friendship was intriguing, but his ideas have probably been covered by numerous other authors. I can certainly see how ODing on Emerson may not make you eager to read more of him.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-20352126927354717542015-02-13T07:54:27.519-08:002015-02-13T07:54:27.519-08:00It's poor grammar. "Waxing" should actually be verb but I used it as a descriptive adjective because I liked the way it sounded. So yes, I broke the rules in favour of creativity.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-81526450469376008832015-02-13T07:49:09.842-08:002015-02-13T07:49:09.842-08:00I really enjoyed this essay as a single read, but ...I really enjoyed this essay as a single read, but I think if I immersed myself in Transcendentalist writing, it would become wearing after awhile. I do not believe that we are all inherently good and it is outside sources that corrupt us. I have Walden coming up in the next few months so my reaction to that will be interesting.

Thanks for mentioning Alcott because I haven't found that the transcendentalist philosophy comes through strongly in her writing, but perhaps I just haven't paid enough attention. I'm reading Little Women next month so I'll be able to look for it then.Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-48956489962813615622015-02-13T07:11:04.326-08:002015-02-13T07:11:04.326-08:00I like your analysis. I've read no Emerson, but I want to explore Transcendentalists more - I only know Thoreau (not read), Alcott (read Little Women and Good Wives) and Herman Melville (read Moby Dick). I'll keep an eye out for his essays, and if I don't find them soon I'll order them online. I want to read this now! ohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01245931629228090133noreply@blogger.com
