And I just finished Born Again.

Since I love biographies, I enjoyed reading this one, but I never warmed up to Colson. I felt like I ever fully trusted him or his words. (Maybe b/c he was an insider politician type.)

However, since further reading shows how totally dedicated he was to the faith, even up to his death, it forces me to open up to his conversion. I guess I'm trying to say I didn't feel his words about his faith were genuine, but I think the evidence is contrary to my feelings. I just have never read about or heard of the guy until now.

And I have mixed feelings about his complaints regarding prison environment and treatment. Part of me thinks prison should be organized as a rehabilitation facility, and prisoners should be treated better; then the other half is saying, "Prison in not vacation; it's actually punishment." So, I'm really torn. But I agree that so many lives would be changed if prisoners would come to know Christ. Not all would respond, but many would.

Finally, the whole speaking in tongues thing really bothered me. I didn't like that part at all. I think God is there and people are attempting to ignore or "escape" from him but as they attempt to, either everything goes wrong or the fulfillment is rather empty. I like the Orthodox view of seeing God in people ..... if we could view people that way, I think we'd all treat them much better. The way Colson treated people after he found Christ compared to the way he treated them before, showed an immediate increase in his empathy, kindness and love for them. Very cool! :-)Cleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13152128642971612433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-35963708301586005932016-04-08T10:55:07.009-07:002016-04-08T10:55:07.009-07:00very well put; couldn't have said it better.....very well put; couldn't have said it better...Mudpuddlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17194891656971454279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-52089917676099916392016-04-07T21:42:41.082-07:002016-04-07T21:42:41.082-07:00This is a whole new perspective on Colson! Very Interesting...of course, I am never convinced about end justifying means; in fact most of the time, means have destroyed the very end that was being sought! Its funny how many people find religion, after they have done practically everything against the tenets of the religion...call me a skeptic, but I think it is more of escapism and while that may not at all apply to Colson, but somehow it is strange, that after you have done everything to harm your fellow beings, you "discover' God!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495382709151625398.post-63442784778563883512016-04-07T18:56:55.162-07:002016-04-07T18:56:55.162-07:00"entrails" is such an accurate word for ..."entrails" is such an accurate word for it. :-D

It was uplifting to see something life-changing and useful come out of something so sordid. It's definitely worth reading. I really love Colson's honesty. Even though he wasn't part of Watergate, he did take responsibility for being part of and furthering the political disease within government. It's not often politicians take responsibility for their actions and, in this case, I think Colson paid back in spades. A "successful" life lived in the spotlight, money and the power, means so little if Christ is not at the apex of it all. I think Colson intrinsically sensed this, but it took a big lesson to recognize it.

Thanks! I wish I wasn't so out of whack, but the consolation is that I won't have the same problem with the histories which are up next. This is a time period I know very little about b/c I was a newborn, so I am anxious to get to it.

Hey, even if you can't read TWEM books in order, it is still nice to read your perspective.
