Little Women Read-Along

Well, I think that Hamlette from The Edge of the Precipice is planning a Little Women read-along for the beginning of March and if so, I am so in!  I thought I would post now, so for those of you who'd like to join us, you'll have a little bit of a heads up.

If you know Hamlette's read-along history, she sets such a nice pace and really delves into the reads, so I am very excited to be joining.  The last time I read this book was perhaps 10 years ago, so I'm certainly ready for a re-read. The March girls have kept a special place in my heart and I'm looking forward to visiting again and becoming part of their close-knit family.

  1. Well, I have been putting off my rereading of Little Women for too long, so -- even though I am likely to be the only 70 year old man participating in this read-along (mostly women?) -- pencil me in for the challenge. I suppose I should tell Hamlette of my intentions.

    1. That's wonderful news. We can benefit from your worldly experience and perhaps get a different point of view. :-)

  2. Yes, I AM planning it! I really need to do a "don't forget!" post about this to remind everyone. Maybe tomorrow! And thanks for the shout-out :-) It's probably been at least 15 years since I've read it, so I'm quite excited for the re-read too!

    1. Oh good. I didn't want to anticipate you but I felt March 1st sneaking up and I thought I should get something out. I'm really looking forward to it. Now I just have to pull my brain out of Persuasion. :-)

    2. I meant to post about it last weekend, but then various things made it slip my mind.

  3. So tempting...but I already have so much to read already! I'll get back to you on this one.

    1. Oh, you should do it. Would it be out of your comfort zone? I'd love to hear your comments.

    2. Not at all. I'm always open to new reading experiences. :)

  4. Nice! I read this recently and hope my memories will be fresh enough to participate. I want to reread Little Men and Jo's Boys as well.

    1. Excellent! I'm happy that this read-along goes at a pace that allows you to fit in other books. I'm looking forward to your Elizabeth Goudge reading week as well; I don't read nearly as much of her works as I should!

    1. Hey Obsidian! Good to see you here! I wish you could join in but I understand. I'm drowning under books and courses at the moment but I'm determined to come up for this one.

Thanks, too, for your kind words! :-)

  6. I love Little Women! I've just read it recently so I won't join in, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you make of it ten years on! I bet you'll love it more :)

    1. And I think that you will be absolutely right!

I am reading your blog reviews, BTW, but you are going at a pace that makes my head spin and my comments spotty, as I have a couple of courses going on now (Hamlet and Richard III). When things slow down, I'll have to catch up!

    2. I won't be keeping up the pace - I've got some chunksters coming up for March and April! :D

  7. This book is beloved by many...I am not one of them.
I read it in 2012, it was one of my first posts. I probably did not really know how to approach a book way back then. What I do remember is that the book captured my attention after chapter 33 until the end. Jo's thoughts as an adult were very moving. The childhood years tasted like ' cotton candy'...so sweet.

    1. Did you not enjoy it because you felt it was too sacchrine? I did liked the balance ...... not everything was perfect and they had to face some quite tragic circumstances. I read it as a child and wasn't that impressed but when I read it as an adult, I fell in love with it.
