2nd Annual Classics Club Read-a-thon

The Classics Club is having their 2nd Annual Read-a-Thon and I've decided to participate ……. or at least do my best.  It begins at 8 a.m. on January 4th, 2014 and ends 24 hours later on January 5th.  What a great way to finish off some of those pesky classics that you weren't able to complete for 2013 and get ready to start a new year!

My guess is that I will be trying to finish War and Peace, Tales of Ghosts and Men, and will be trying catch up to the schedules of David Copperfield, and His Excellency, Eugene Rougon.  If a miracle happens and I happen to finish a few of these books before 2013 ends, I will have The History of the Ancient World, The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, The Wizard of Oz and The Great Gatsby to start off the year.

I've never participated in a Read-A-Thon before and I'm really looking forward to it!

  1. I love readathons! I shall join you!

I used to be good at them, do the whole 24 hours, but for the past few I've joined (Dewey's for example), I've only signed up for 12 hours. I think I must be getting old... :)

    1. If you read for 24 hours straight, do you ever want to read again?! ;-) I guess it depends on what you are reading.

I have a birthday to plan for the following day so I probably won't be able read for all the 24 hours. In this season of life, I can hardly sit for 1/2 hour uninterrupted, so even a few hours together will be a treat!

I'm glad to heard that you are joining too! I will be looking forward to reading about your accomplishments!

  2. Hi Cleopatra, wow, you have some interesting books here! I've always been afraid to do a read-a-thon, so I'll be glad to see what you think of it. I read War and Peace as a chapter-a-day book in 2011 and had mixed feelings - I'm going to read Crime and Punishment soon and see if I like Dostoevsky better :) Thanks for posting about the Books on France Challenge, I am going to sign up for that one too - and the Pre-Printing Press Challenge looks really cool, but I will probably wait til 2015 for that one so as to chip away at my TBR pile in 2014.

  3. Hi Anja! I'll let you know about the Read-A-Thon. I think the trick will be trying to avoid interruptions.

I'm enjoying War and Peace. I think Tolstoy was quite adept at understanding how people "tick". I'd love to read Crime and Punishment but I probably won't get to it this year.

Yes, I've gone a little overboard with the challenges this year but I think I can pull it off. I hope! :-)

  4. I'm in too, but will have to be a little sneaky with the whole International dateline thing to make it work for me!

I suspect I will still be finishing my CCSpin #4 book, The Brother's Karamazov, as I've only just started it today (**slaps self on wrist)!

  5. Don't feel badly, Brona, I will be finishing my spin book (Bleak House) way behind schedule. The important thing is that we finish; it's best to look at it that way. ;-)

    Have fun with the read-a-thon!

  6. I'm really looking forward to the readathon, too! I have a feeling I'll be reading The Wizard of Oz, although there are any number of books I could pick up. Can't wait!

    1. I've already pulled The Wizard of Oz and have it scheduled! I have a few more ready to go too but I'll see if I can get to them. I need to focus on some of my 'catch-ups' from the end of the year.

It's going to be fun, isn't it!
